The Automotive Industry Development Centre (AIDC), supported a South African automotive company, Lumen Special Cables at the Africa Kaizen Annual Conference (AKAC) where they company won the Excellence Kaizen Award.

The event is an initiative of the Japanese government for the African continent. This year it was hosted in Tunis, the capital city of Tunisia.

More than 15 African countries participated in the Kaizen awards process by submitting names of companies through the Kaizen implementing agencies like the AIDC. Out these ,16 were selected for the competition and nine to present at the conference. Lumen Special Cables was one of the companies selected to deliver a presentation at the conference.

During the awards ceremony on Wednesday evening, 26 June 2019, Lumen Special Cables and the AIDC, led by CEO Mr. Lance Schultz, collected the Excellence Kaizen Award.

Mr Lance Schultz said “once again the AIDC team has continued to make excellence an attitude, this time in African and within the international arena “.

The conference also received insightful information from other African countries as well as Malaysia, Argentina and Japan.

The AIDC, a subsidiary of the Gauteng Growth & Development Agency (GGDA), is a strategic entity established to:

  • Provide support to the Automotive Industry,
  • Increase foreign direct investment,
  • Help create direct and indirect job opportunities

The AIDC is a catalyst for economic growth within the automotive sector and executes this by partnering with key stakeholders such as industry leaders, government departments, and nongovernmental agencies and supporting aspirant automotive suppliers.

The Winning Team: AIDC CEO Mr. Lance Schultz, Rachael Gounden ,Lumen Special Cables representative, Mr. Nkumbizi Ben-Mazwi and Mr. Sydney Theko from the AIDC’s Supplier and Enterprise Development Department.
